Lego Technic Easy to Build Rc Crawlers
I have always been a big fan of Lego Technic vehicle models, so this time, I was very happy to see this interesting compact crawler crane Lego set under our Christmas tree. I got it as a Christmas gift from my brother. Also, when I was a kid, I enjoyed playing with all the Lego Technic mechanisms, so this model has brought me some nice memories from my childhood. If you are an adult and you like Lego Technic models like this one, you might also like to check out my other article in which I have reviewed the top Lego Technic sets for adults.
So, how has my building experience with this model been? I will try to explain it to you in the following lines of this text.
This is a little bigger Lego building kit than the other ones that I usually review on my blog (I mostly buy smaller Lego sets). It is especially big when built and when the crane's arm is fully extended. The model also includes many gear wheels, so if you like mechanical functions, or if you want your kids to learn mechanical & engineering thinking, this is the right model for that.
The parts are divided into 7 plastic bags. They are not numbered, but it hasn't been a problem for me to look for the parts. Most of them are yellow and gray. There are few black and red ones as well. The total number of pieces of this Lego kit is 920. It took me 3 hours and 50 minutes to fully assemble it. I divided the building process into 3 days and have been enjoying the building in the evenings.
The whole model includes a lot of gear wheels, even from the beginning of the building process. It has been a nice experience to observe how every one of the gears was coming together to create interesting working functions. It also includes nice details like small stickers with the warning signals.
For me, this was the first time building a Lego crane. It has been a nice new experience that I have enjoyed. Also, I haven't built a Lego vehicle with tracks for about 20 years. The last time when I built a Lego with tracks was when I was about 10 years old, but the tracks worked differently in those times. I mean, e.g. particularly the Lego Technic 8257 Cyber Strikers set. I got that one as a Christmas gift together with my brother. One cyber striker was for me, the other one was for my brother. And one of them had tracks instead of wheels (my brother's one). So, that has been my first experience with Lego tracks. In those times, you just had the whole track in a rubber part and that was all. Now, the tracks are built differently; they are made of many plastic Lego pieces that you connect together. In this particular crane set, there are 30 pieces for the left side and the other 30 for the right side. I think that today's solution is much better.
This building kit also features a B model; Compact Tower Crane, but the instructions for it are not included in the packaging. You will have to download them from the Lego website. The set also includes some new Technic parts which I have seen for the first time; especially the big yellow parts for the working outriggers. Other features of this model include an extendable boom, 180°-rotating superstructure, and a hoist with extensive cabling (with safety lock).
Overall, I can say that this is a very nice Lego crane set. If you or your kids (this is a 10+ Lego) like Lego Technic cranes, this will be an ideal gift for them (or for yourself). You can also see some details of it on the photos that I'm posting below.
